The story of Haterboy and Van Hagen started on the dancefloor of Hannover's infamous 'Weltspiele'-Club in 1993. Both knew each other from hearsay as they went to the same school these days but it was the energy of the time and place at that one night that built the foundation for their longtime friendship. Soon after Van Hagen started DJing while Haterboy began to produce his first tracks. Inspired by acts and labels like Basic Channel, Underground Resistance, Derrick May, Transmat and Jeff Mills the two began their own musical journey and played their first gigs on the local scene.
As the commercialization of the scene began to start and the sound at the parties changed from rough Techno and Acid to cheesy Trance they both felt the need to break new ground. In 1996 they explored the sound of acts like Portishead, Aphex Twin, Tricky and Massive Attack. On from then the sound of the DJ-sets and productions took a serious change. In 1998 Van Hagen held a residency at a local bar called 'Leisure Lounge' where lots of rappers from the upcoming local hip-hop scene used to hang out. Consequently, he hooked them up with Haterboy and the first recording sessions soon led to the conclusion to start their own label called 'illViBE Recordings'. From then till the present day they put out more than 25 successful Releases on that label. Haterboy left his mark as a producer on over 150.000 sold units.
Van Hagen, of course, always continued DJing. Besides HipHop his versatile party sets covered lots of classic dance music from 70's disco over 80's New Wave & Electro to contemporary Electronica. In 2006 Haterboy began to focus on his solo project and made a step ahead from just being the 'back- ground producer'. The first eclectic Haterboy-Tracks and Remixes were soon to be a success on the internet. Van Hagen also started to leave the hip-hop scene behind and strictly focussed on dance music again. He started residencies at a local 80's Retro-Club and Hannover's famous House & Techno club Liquid Lounge.
Finally they decided to join forces as a DJ- and production-team and started the Love Hertz label in early 2008. Initially they did some remixes and bootlegs for the internet blog scene and released their successful official debut "Doppelhertz / Bruderhertz" in June 2008. The follow up singles “Motorsoul“, “Higher Heights“ and “Moonstalker“ proofed their worth and received massive genre-clashing DJ support by the likes of Timo Maas, King Unique, D-Nox & Beckers, Tomcraft, Da Fresh, Kim Fai, Marco V, Angel Anx, Kim Fai and many more.
The duo's latest productions and remixes developed into a deeper and more underground sounding direction and gained worldwide attention of DJ's like Toni Rios (Cocoon), Gene Le Fosse (Cocoon / Abe Duque Rec.), Stephan Hinz (Kling Klong), Marco Dassi (Minus), Anderson Noise (Harthouse), Tom Pooks (Ovum/Kompakt), Remute (Perc Trax) and lots more. With productions ranging from clubby subtlety to big room accessibility their sound reflects the contemporary electronic club sounds as well as a deep respect for the pioneers of electronic music from Detroit, Chicago and the UK. Influenced by Disco, 80's New Wave and Acid House these guys are always guaranteed to come up with some fresh electronic dance music merging styles of the past and present to their very own future sound.
Their sound as a DJ team nowadays is best described as Minimal House with some straight Techno thrown in for perfect measure. Add their breathtaking performance and get the essence of the dancefloor mayhem these guys are guaranteed to cause. Don't forget, it started on the dancefloor and that's where it always will return to!
